Bilstein replacement bushings

I have the YELLOW 6081's and have the lower mount spacer but my truck is eating up the FRONT bottom bushings. Right now I am fed up with the shock eye chattering on the mount.

Anyone here found or used a Poly bushing yet as a replacement? I have already had a set replaced by Bilstein (USA) but living in Canada makes that a whole other PITA !!!

Of course I should rip the shock off and bring it in for a "try this" fitting session, but is -30C (-22F) and doing this in a parking lot with a fully salted and undercoated rig with no guarantee of finding a set at that place is not what I feel like doing....

So anyone been down this road (potholes) before?

Thanks guys!

I searched all over the internet for about 2 months looking for polys, never did find any. I complained to Bilstein and the guy even sent me the build spec for the lower bushing so I could try to match it up to a generic poly with no luck.

\i ordered an 9.8111 Chrylser bushing. It will need to be cut as it is too long, but cut it in the middle and make a 2 piece unit out of it and use the sleeve from the pooched billie bushing.

Dont get them till Wed, will keep you guys updated as there is no direct replacement / upgrade for them.

Bilstien 5100 HD Yellow shocks are shorter than the suspension travel of these trucks so if you are leveled any bit and larger tires that is why you are seeing the lower bushing fail.

Thought the 5100's were the brushed aluminum tube shocks. Besides, my original post states clearly that I have spacers in the bottom mount as well.

More info...When installed, I measured stock vs. Bilie and added spacers (+plus) to accomodate the torsion tweak for plowing season....

So not sure what you are trying to tell me dood....Since I'm not the only one having this issue, perhaps someone has already been down this road and done a poly bushing substitution like I'm planning on doing.

Bilstein 5100 come in Yellow (Factory replacements) and Zinc body for special apps. You stated your torsion bars are cranked, that is a special app.

Ever try jacking up your truck frame and letting the suspension hang to completely tell if the shock and added spacer was enough? I do this for a living and trying to help you with what I know so take a few minutes to over look what you thought was all right and you may find out it was not. Not saying it is not right because I couldn't tell you that due to the truck not being in front of me but rather helping you find the course of the possible issue' to in the end "FIX" your problem.

FYI....The stock OE shock is too short off the show room floor from GM already so if you used that to come up with your spacer spec that is not correct and why you may still be seeing the bushing failing. Here is a pic to help you understand what I am saying:

Yes...how do you think I know all this that may be your problem.

I'm just helping so don't get frustrated and loose concept of the simple over views we sometimes don't see.

So do you have any type of bushing fix? Spacers and longer bolts are cheap and easy to find and make. AS stated I already have spaced my Yellows to more than make up for them having a shorter range. Just taking them out of the box I checked the stroke and called the vendor AND Bilstien to check if the shocks were the right ones...and they said they were.

The first time I replaced them (with another new set of Bilstein bushings) I put even more spacers on the bottom and also put a short sleeve on the top rod too. So I wasnt expecting different results from not changing anything. And now they are pooched again.

actually the shock eyes walk off the bushing towards the cab and contact the shock mount bracket.

Another vendor on this site states the shocks are plenty long enough.

...and if you want to crank the the t-bars then spacers/sleeve is necessary, which I had done and more.

Bushing should be in tomorrow. I dont know how much more spacers can go in there before you bottom out the shock before the upper CA's hit the upper limit.
