What Is Up With My Weak Steering??

All trucks have their drawbacks, but I am ready to sell my 2007 Chevy HD2500 Duramax LBZ because I cannot turn the damn thing!!!!!!! I just bought it for $28500, put $3100 on lift, steering braces, tie rod ends, etc., $3000 in matching paint for handles, etc., $900 in white matching Rhino Liner, $1000 in tint and clear bra, $1000 oil bypass filtration/oil, $600 on PPE downloader chip, etc., etc.!

My 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 w/Cummins is SO MUCH EASIER to drive, it will turn as sharp as a car (MUCH sharper than the chev go drive one!), and I can turn the steering wheel while driving/backing, with the brake on, whatever. The Chevy on the other hand, loses ALL power steering when your foot is on the brake. Period!

I can turn my 2004 Dodge Diesel without so much as a hickup! Chevy is a joke in this compartment!

My 1992 Jeep YJ rockcrawler will turn the front tires with 40 inch mud tires on rocks with no forward speed and locked axles........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

My 1984 (23 years older) Ford F350 1 ton will turn the front tires siting still, with one finger, brakes on, loaded!!!

Maybe Chevy Does Suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Dodge looks better on the inside, and outside, and will make a guaranteed 1000 hp daily driver with NO PROBLEMS!!!! STOCK ENGINE.

CHEAP A$$ steering!!

ok, so pretty much the purpose of this thread is to bash GM and say how much you love dodge. If you love dodge so much, just stick with that. They are GREAT trucks. All rigs have their pros and cons. GM will ride smoother than dodge and is faster.

Maybe check all the zerk fittings. When i did my lift, the steering was really hard, felt almost like it was binding, but i hit all the zerks, and it feels much better now. I can dry steer with no problems, tho i try not to.

Flush the power steering. I just had a 3500 in here that would not steer while sitting still. Very simply and nearly mess free. I used Dexron VI synthetic (I had it laying around).

I followed these instructions and mine used a quart and a half. http://www.duramaxforum.com/forum/di...ost-flush.html

Literally a night and day difference.

I don't WANT to GM bash, I bought a GM after my 2003 Cummins, and 2004 Cummins, because I love the Allison and Duramax. My first experience to diesel was a 2003 HD. I am afraid to try a u-turn on a residential street when I know my Dodge would make it easy. I love the hot seat heaters, onstar, large mirrors, 6 speed tranny, proven engine, tranny temp gauge, auto headlights, auto temp control, easy headlight exchange, aluminum drive line, driver 1/2 memory controls, etc.

Oh, Ok. Well I heard so many bad things about the steering on these that suspected it was build quality. I'll try that!

Don't misunderstand me, as GMs do suck, but as for the steering, I didn't think it would help, but it made it near perfect. Reaching in the open window, she'll go lock to lock with just a pinky finger now. Did I mention that it has 145k miles on it, and the steering's been crappy (poorly boosted) since day one? The driver was never concerned with it, but I had it here, so I figured, "what the hell".

As for being $50k truck, did you not buy it used? How do we know what the last guy did or didn't do? And the steering box is the same in a $30k truck. And the design is well over 40 years old, and tried and true. And your Dodge had the same brand pump and steering box (Saginaw). Plus you've modified the suspension (geometry) and, almost certainly, enlarged the tire size. Rant over, carry on...

Exactly. You have to be aware that the truck is designed to work optimally as it is shipped from the factory. When you put 40x 15.5's on a system built around 31x10's, things may not work exactly as planned.

Also, how exactly is a 28K truck a 50K truck? Not that your steerings shouldn't work on either, but you certainly can not elevate the value of your truck and expectations because you sprayed on rhino liner, etc?

well hell, if you got all that money into it already, Look up PSC steering. Send them your steering box and it will turn better than your dodge. All the boxes i have seen on these chevys have been pretty close to junk IMO. Should only cost ya about 150-250 bucks to get her done how you want.

as for the 1000hp stock engine. "Ill believe that when me shit turns purple and smells like rainbow sherburt!"

Not the best way I can think of to start your forum career on a GM site there sphincter! If you have issues, that is what this forum is all about. Ask and someone has probably encountered it before and can assist.
