i know of 2 people that took there trucks to the dealer fro that exact concern it probly raises 1/4 to 1/2 inch dont it both truck owners were told this is normal play for the gear box and shipped the trucks that way.i personaly work on turds for a living and if i saw that much play i would replace may be just a worn out sector shaft thats what i would replace and replace the seals set mesh load.i have seen the parts for the rebuild be just as expensive as buying a rebuilt on.but alot of memebers have stated that there steering was worse after they installed the reman.i dont know if this helped you but good luck.
