I've found that for the LBZ and later truck (06+) the Derale coolers work great and are perhaps preferable even. The issue with the LLY and earlier trucks (01-05) is that the tranny cooler is right in the center of the front support so the Derale cooler doesn't fit (you can see from the pic in post #79.......nice Setrab cooler BTW!). If you want something totally plug and play then I definitely recommend GM's 8.1L cooler (15295847) which can be had for around $80 shipped and is easy to set up with an inline Magnafine filter. This setup has worked great for me thus far.

Inline somewhere along the low pressure hose marked 9, 10, 11 in your diagram.

I don't see a filter on the pump. Adding a cooler and a filter would be a good idea.

For some reason that one is missing a filter. I helped build/test over 300 million in my 30 years of work and every one had a filter or suppose to have. We built them for every car manufacture. In this link you can see him whipping the magnet aka filter off. http://tc.wagoneer.net/sblog/static.php?page=ps_rebuild

Seems to me that you'd want to keep any internal filters as clean as possible since they are not easy to clean/change (not sure how fine it filters either).

Considering how hot the system runs and how dirty the fluid can become, an inline P/S fluid filter still sounds like a good idea IMHO.

Oh I see. Your talking about the magnet. You kept saying filter. You don't see the magnet in the pic because, I already installed the new pump. A magnet is definetly not a filter. When I think of a filter it is something that filters out contaminates and taking them out of the system. Magnets just collect ferrous particles in the reservoir. Definetly need a magnet and a filter. I am about to put a new pump and steering gear on my truck I should add a inline filter also.

I missed that it was a magnet that was being referred to so yes, definitely need to filter out other stuff besides just ferrous contaminants.

Just to clarify, because I thought I read somewhere else, I thought the filter went in the return line from the boost labeled #1. ?? Just making sure before I go cut the wrong hose tomorrow.
