Its strange ya know. Unitl Allison came out with the 1000 model for light duty trucks..no-one was using a spin on external Transmission filter (at least that I am aware of), for passenger vehicles. We would happily go 50-75k miles and not worry about a thing.

Along comes Detroit and a spin on and all of a sudden you gotta change it every 10-15k.?

I figured that if I dont change my OEM fuel filter & the post OEM fuel filter every oil change, whey should I do the the spin on the ally on t hose same intervals.? I used to but realized it made no sense.

As for swapping out Transynd at 25k, I can see doing that if you are simply draining the pan and then refilling to get a higher percentage of Transynd vs Dex VI..but to do so due to service..? A huge wast of good fluid IMO.

my take,

Theo

Subaru had an external filter until 2010. Then they decided it was not needed and my 2012 does not have one.
Nothing wrong with dropping the pan at 25K. Easy job and the gasket can be reused most of the time. It will give you the piece of mind there was nothing in the pan and you can check the magnet and it\f it is clean you know the transmission is probably never going to give a problem.

My daughter's '96 Saturn has a spin on tranny filter...

Bodysurfer wasnt draining Transynd at 25k, he was draining Dex 6 fluid @ 25K.
& while your under the truck & your changing your engine oil the trans spin on filter is right there so why not change it? Call it wasting money, or point less @ the time but it is a cheap priced filter to change & easy to do.
Every 10-15K miles people will do, engine oil change, or fuel filter change.

I agree that it is cheap and it is easily changed...no question..I just do it after about 3 changes.

I was also unaware that others had spin on tranny filters. I stand corrected.! It is a good idea.

Well at near 230k on the dial..whatever it is I'm doing..appears to be working. lol I attribute part of that to dbl and soon to be, triple fuel filtering (AD100 comin real soon). That, and I will totally swear by 2 Stroke oil mixed with Power Service. Cheap - Plentifull - rated high on Spicers lubricity test ... and after 200k using it - no issues with fuel system.

all good byes..!

Cheers,

Theo

We have 2 local Allison dealers that sells Transynd for $30 per gal, a local oil warehouse sells it for $32.00 gal.
If anyone is paying more you are getting screwed.
Dextron V1 is ok, but Transynd is made for the Allison and suggested to use in the Allison Transmission.
