nv 4500 transmission fluid recomendation

The only oil that I have been able to find that I am positive is correct is from the dealer, either gm or dodge.
Amsoil has a fluid that I believe will work but the dealer is closer and I don't have to do the amsoil dance.

Does anyone know of a suitable alternative? From what I know gl4 is specified because of the syncro material and gl5 is supposed to degrade it. Gl5 is supposed to be backward compatible but apparently is not. My schaeffer rep said that they did not have a product that is suitable.

thank you

I got mine from the Dodge dealer as it was much cheaper then GM dealer and same stuff. I am to afraid to run anything else and this is something that gets done very seldom so why cheap out or chance it?

At times, some of the chemistry in a GL-5 will not be the best for some internal components (brass, IIRC ...). That in mind, GL-4 specific lubes are a better decision.

There are some still on the market; shop around.

Of note: Pennzoil has a synthetic that is available in either GL-4 or GL-5. They also have a MTF specific for your synchromesh tranny.

There are other brands too such as Delo:

etc ...

I used to use dino oil because I didn't know any better.
Then, I used synthetics because I thought they were "best".
Now, I use dino, because I know the truth!

Nv 4500

Depending where you live GM or Do_g_ will have the best price. Where I live I found the GM had the best price. Get a product information bocklet on oils ( everyone should have one or more!!!) The trans has ?? brass in it and the GL-5 oil will not work with the brass you will need the GL-4. My owners manual said I could use ???? Think it was (Chevron's) oil 1804 when I phone them the gent told me that he though that that oil was a GL-1 oil and was only sold in 45 GL drums so that was no good.
