There is a supplemental owners manual for the Duramax that includes oil capacity etc .. they were available for download at http://www.gm.com/gmownercenter/ .. not sure if the feature is still active

10 1/2 if you drain the sump with the front end up on ramps.

15-40 or 5-40 Rotella Synthetic.

Amsoil sells a 5-30 synthetic and the two above weights also. Their filters are also much better and last 15K miles along with the oil.

Amsoil also sells a 10W-40 and a 20W-50 that are both CI-4 rated. AMO & ARO are for pre-2007 Diesels.

Hey guys, newbie here. I changed my oil for the first time since I've owned my 2002 Dmax this past weekend. I changed my oil and filter without the front end onto ramps and even though the capacity is 10 quarts, after I filled it up with 9 quarts I let it run. I then waited and check the oil and it measured full on the dipstick. Checked it again yesterday on level ground and the dipstick still measured full. Am I missing something here?

I haven't heard of it- but suppose it is possible. It is actually clear up to the top of the full zone now?? Most are short on putting 10 qts in.
