Adding 2 cycle oil for better mileage?????

I have a friend who said he has been adding a quart of 2 cycle oil per tank of diesel and it is increasing his gas mileage by 4 or 5 mpg...................

Is there any truth to this!?!?!

I would love to increase mpg, as I'm sure we all would, but I am not willing to mess up my engine.

If 2 cycle oil is added for lubricity purposes make sure you are adding the TCW-3 spec, which is the ashless.

I add it for lubricity. It smooths out my idle and seems to add a bit of "pep" in the old seat of the pants speed sensor - but it has made no noticable increase in fuel mileage. I would be tempted to call BS on 4 or 5 mpg change.

That right existed prior to the formation of the new government under the Constitution and was premised on the private use of arms for activities such as hunting and self-defense, the latter being understood as resistance to either private lawlessness or the depredations of a tyrannical government (or a threat from abroad)."

I would not put anything like that in my engine.

to get that kind of mileage improvement you would need to be adding something with a much, much higher energy content/gal than diesel, especially with that small of an amount. 2 stroke oil isn't going to do that. IMHO he's blowing smoke

Assuming you can't change vehicle areodynamics, frontal area, or rolling resistance, there are only a few ways to improve mileage.
1) mproves the vehicle thermal efficiency, (which is very hard to do),
2) use a fuel with a much higher energy content/gal. (also hard to do when using hydrocarbons like gas/diesel. Not much with higher energy content, lot's with lower energy content such as ethanol, LPG, LNG etc.)
3) change your driving habits.

(3) is the easiest to do, but is also the least "fun".

I'v added 2 stroke to my diesel before, saw no improvement in mpg, mayby a little smoother idle, but probly in my head. only thing i see it good for is its better on the injectors, adds some lubrication to the fuel since this ultra low sulfer crap sucks. I prefer power service for additives.

I've been running 2 cycle oil in mine for a long time and haven't seen any increase in mpg.
