Oil - Quaker State vs. Valvoline or ???

Evening all -
The '06 CC LLY with 65,000 miles I bought a couple weeks ago came from a guy that used the Quaker State synthetic oil, done at an outlet I'm not familiar with. I have been warned of Quaker State oil (not synth) because it is parafin based (???) and have always been partial to Valvoline products anyway, so I will probably stick with their synthetic product. My questions for you experts is: can anyone forsee any problems switching brands as long as they are both synth, and/or any advice on other brands, as long as I'm switching? Or known problems with Valvoline?

Thanks much!

when you switch to synthetic oil you should stay with it. valvoline is great oil dont get me wrong way better than quaker state i think. you should be fine if you switch it as long as it is synthetic. i like to use mobile 1 15w50 on my truck never used anything different and it is proven protection for 15,000 miles.

Is 15w50 a diesel rated oil???? I don't think it is.....

It is okay to switch brands, especially away from QS. Also stay away from Pennzoil as well. Valvoline is okay, but I recommend a Mobil product such as Delvac 1 or Mobil 1 turbo diesel truck, The Amsoil products, even Totella T syn even though I'm not big on it.

Why are u telling him to stay away from Pennzoil. I have used it for hundreds of thousands of miles on all my trucks without a problem. Nothing wrong with Pennzoil. It's a great oil for diesels.

Pennzoil also has a high parafin content which is not good for diesel engines. Not a first choice when there's better oils available. We sell all brands so I'm not just knocking it because we don't sell it. Pennzoil is a good oil and highly recommended for gas applications. You may have had good luck with no problems but if you have a fleet of 100 over the road trucks, you'll see a difference between the oils.

I do not own any Gas trucks and never have. My dodge cummins had 237000 miles when I sold it, nothing but pennzoil. My 03 duramax Had 170000 with just pennzoil. I do not think that is just luck. As to whether or not about a high parrafin count, that obviously has had no effect on my trucks. Both trucks ran like a top.

You can find a MobilExxon distributor or jobber in your area. It will be labeled either Delvac 1 or Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck. Typically in retail stores it will be with the Mobil 1 label and for commercial or HD markets they use the Delvac 1 packaging.
