...and you checked both the line going to the filter and the line from the filter to the pump?

That is where I have seen the most common problems. That code sets when the engine is starving for fuel. You might have to go back from the filter to the tank to find the cause. Are the vent hoses to the tanks open?

As of today I started getting the same code. However today it is -42F! I use Power Services additive and get good fuel. My fuel filter has less then 1000 miles on it. I might change it anyhow just to make sure. I am not the only one around town getting this code after talking to the dealer. My truck stays outside 365 days a year.

P0087 Code

Just experienced code P0087. Quoted from GM document ID # 1878036 "Condition/Concern: A 6.6 LBZ LB7 or LLY diesel engine equipped vehicle may be brought in for a hard start, or a no start, ran for a short period fo time and then stalled out. If the vehilce is moved into a heated shop or garage the vehilcle will start normally.

If a below frezzing hard start/no start has been verified it may be caused by fuel contamination, poor fuel quality, fuel gelling or fuel waxing.

Normal fuel system readings when cranking are 1 to 2 inches Hg (in/Hg) of vacuum. A frozen restricted fuel system can reach 10 in/Hg of vacuum or higher while cranking".

The dealer installed a hand operated vacuum pump( Kent-Moore J23738-A)
the vacuum gauge read 13 to 15 in/Hg of vacuum. I found this hard to belived, but I has standing right there. I carry spare fuel filter in the truck. The mechanic installed spare fuel filter, then we check the vacuum and found the reading to be 1 to 2 in/Hg. That was my problem with Code P0087. Fuel filter had about 6k miles, the fuel source is very reliable, hoping the problem I had was icining in the fuel filter( never drain fuel filter). This last week we had temps -4 to 3 degress during the day, heated garage at home. If the icing is not my problem, I may have some type of crap in the fuel tank. I will be cutting open fuel filter and hoping the fine some water. BOY, THIS WEATHER SUCKS Hope this helps

I had this problem when pulling at highway speeds, truck would fall on its face and limp to the shoulder of the road. I installed an electric lift pump. It was a low pressure unit. This solved that problem. It has been over a year without throwing that code.

I've had a lot of 2006 owners add my KD Twin lift pumps to cure this issue. I have a dealer in Wetaskiwin AB Canada doing a lot of pump/filter combos and pump only kits to combat fuel quality issues. If you drop me an email I can put you in touch with them.

You can verify the restriction or lift psi with my handy gauge. I haven't tried it on a Med duty for clearance, but here it is on a pickup:

I threw this code this morning. 1 degree outside. I've been in much colder with no issues...maybe due to fuel quality?? Truck also would not exceed 2000RPM until I shut it down and restarted. Is this what you guys experienced as well?

Forgot to mention that after I noticed the check engine light, I added some Diesel 911 and 15 gals of fresh fuel. The engine light didn't go out after 200 miles. Do I assume I still have an issue, or does the code need to be cleared before it goes out?
