fifth wheel to gooseneck/ short bed help

I have the opertunity to buy a fifth wheel travel trailer at a good price.

Here is the problems:
1. I have a gooseneck not a fifth wheel.
2. I have a short bed truck
3. I have a over the rail tool box in my bed that i do not want to remove.
4. I have ranch hand bed rails.

Is there a solution for this or am i out of luck?

i have a friend with a shortbed, but no toolbox, that has a gooseneck ball and a converter on his ok
Ifyou thinkthe bed rails will get in the way, you could always flip the axles to gain 5ver height

The tool box and rails will have to go when you are towing but you can use a gooseneck adapter hitch for the fifth wheel. I have the B&W gooseneck hitch the the companion hitch and it works great and is not a problem with the shortbed. I towed this from Mass to Florida no problem but you have to watch your turns. You cant jacknife all the way or it could hit. Otherwise normal driving and turning you are fine.

Check with the manufacturer of the 5th wheel. Most cannot be used with goose necks, not built for the stress.

x2 with OldSoldier.The gooseneck applies a lot more leverage to the framing aft of the pinbox.

i tow a 5r and i have a over the rail tool box with the bed rail bars also, no problems here, using a 5th wheel hitch and a slider. i rarely use the slider, but it is nice to have it and not need it than to need it and not have one.

In my 03 SC LB 6.0 I had a b&w (best hitch IMO) and the fifth wheel rails that use the single bolt and spacer (vs the ones that take two bolts on each side through the flat parts that touch the bed) lined up perfect with the front angle that goose neck uses, giving me a anchor of a 30k hitch holding my rails in place and the rear i just used the angle brackets. I just got my 07.5 Duramax CC SB and after review just about every manufacuers mounting postion for their rails in this truck, doing this in the new truck will work just fine too. If you take this route you just want to make sure that your king pin is over center or in front of the rear axle which it should be because we've measured it out for my buddys 01 CC SB and came up with the same thing! And the best part of adding the rails isnt even to pull a fifth wheel! They are the GREATEST tie down points!!!

X3. A lot of trailer manufacturers specifically spell out that a fifth wheel to GN adapter may not be used without voiding the frame warranty.

As mentioned, it's a stress thing. GN's put a lot of different and increased forces into the frame because of the leverage effect.
