Front Wheel Bearing/Hub Failure. Common?

2006 Express 3500 Diesel Extended Van. GM Service History indicates both front bearing/hub assemblies replaced by Chevy dealership at 28,9xx miles.

Now, at 53k miles, the front driver's side goes. It appears there is a problem here. I will have to replace the passengers side now, as well. I don't want to wait around for it to fail.

Has GM addressed this problem? Is there any bearing/hub assembly part replacement better/longer lasting than anothere, i.e., is a GM dealer part any better than one I can purchase through Rock Auto?

Also, any links to a video of this repair online?

Thanks!

The turbo sounds sweet with muffler, bet it is way loud without muffler.

Thanks to Fleece Performance, the truck has been flawless. Nobody wants to play anymore

I changed mine out at 250K just do to mileage, they were still good. When I hit 500k I will change them again. I keep 2 spare ones in the truck. The ones I replaced at 250k I went with the ac delco from rock auto. The 2 I have in the van are from SKF and I got them at Napa. They cost a little more but I know SKF makes great hub assy.

As Irish asked stock rim and tire size?? Also how fast do you drive, how hard do you corner, how hard do you brake and how heavy is your steer axle. All of this will effect hub life.

My steer axle is over the limit and my tire size is one up 265/75/R16, but I drive slow and do not brake hard or corner hard. I have had no problems with mine and most people I talk to in my line of work get 200+ out of them some as high as 400k.

Stock rims and tire size. First set failing at 29k miles and now another at 53k, something is wrong.

I was reading another thread about this being common on pickups and partly due to dragging brakes. Here is that link: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=313310

I lent the van to a ralative of a friend for a move. He drove about 500 miles and hit a pothole and then said it felt like the alignment was off. He brought it to a shop and it was a bad hub/bearing. $350/part and $150 labor. It was also aligned at that time.

I just did both of mine today and they were due for replacement. $ 290 and 1.5 hours to R&R with GM parts.

My Van had a bad wobble on the freeway and found front pass bearing bad, can rock wheel back and forth a little. Replacing both with SKF bearings. I am at 83k.
