single rear wheel dually?

Has anyone seen or heard of anyone putting a single rear wheel on a dually?
My nephew said that he saw a dually truck with one big wide tire instead of two. Just wondering if any body had seen one.

Did he see a dually pick-up, or a semi-truck? Some eighteen wheelers are running super wide singles on the drive axles and trailers. Makes them ten wheel eighteen wheelers, i guess. Big tires, man. Maybe a foot and a half tread width.

If you google "super single wheel" you'll find a lot of info.

I think a pick-up. He asked me why didn't I do that?

I dont beleive we have the weight to stick a single huge wheel to the street in a snowstorm or rain storm.

Dual wheels are hard enough to keep on the road in bad weather, I drove a big truck with super singles and thought there was a loss in traction. I think they are more for off road use to keep the truck floating over soft soil. I was driving a fertilizer tender truck in and out of farm fields.

It's a weight issue on the big rigs. Super singles weigh less than 2 separate tires. Less weight = more freight. The singles do hydroplane more than duals. Super singles aren't available in light duty truck sizes anyway - I think the smallest is a 22.5.

I have seen duallys outfitted with big pro street meats in the back, but it makes them useless for hauling or towing. Strictly an appearance thing.

My son did the conversion kit on his '07 Dodge 3500 DRW Cummins to the 22.5 wheels. He had to get the adapters for the hubs to accept the 10 hole lugs. I tried talking him into putting super singles on the back to make them look like big racing tires! LOL
