howling noise

I have a howling noise in the front end of my truck that I thought for sure was tire noise, but I put new tires on it and the noise did not go away. It is the loudest around 45 mph and then quiets down from there. Does front hub bearings make this noise when they are going bad or is it a more consistant noise? Any thoughts?

Could be bearings. Does the sound get worse when turning?

X2. I have replaced my wheel bearings several times. They can let out some noise when they go.

Best to put it on a lift and have someone run it in 4X4 up to 30-40mph while you go over the bearings and diff with a stethoscope. If you do not have one use a long screw driver for the bearings and use the vent tube for the diff to check that.

I am hearing the same type of noise at the same speed on my 08 lmm. It currently has 95,000 miles on it. The dealer has replaced both front wheel bearings. They think that it is tire noise possibly. They recommended getting the truck re-aligned, but I have not done so yet.

I have a howl on my 09 with 65k miles. Also thought it was the tires until tonight. Put the truck in 4wd and accelerated on pavement and noticed the tire noise was non existant, while still light accelerating I switched back to 2wd and the noise came as soon as the indicator went to 2wd. Thinking its the bearing.

Well I talked to a buddy who had a similar problem on his Ford that was a wheel bearing. So I took it in this morning and both front wheel bearings are bad. On a 09 the bearings are covered under the 100k warranty.
