Ive been seeing a couple guys puttin in some weird gear ratios like 4.56 or somethin. What does this do and doesnt it hurt your gas mileage with a ratio like that?
The consent seems for 35"to 37"Tires go with 4:10 or 4:11
40" you could go 4:56
Theses tire/ratio combos seem to work well with the duramax, with a truck with less power and higher rev's you could increase the ratio, I seen 1/2 ton gassers with 37"tires running 4:88 ratio gears
at 70 i am running right at 2100 but my tires measure out to only 35.25 on the truck wish i would of had the money to get some real 37's like my coopers i will not go with BFG again i gave them another chance and this will be the last set i ever buy. the RPMs that i am running are great for towing i can get up to speed easy
When you change you ratio to lower like 4:56's, the motor doesn't have to work near as hard to turn bigger tires and you don't need to bury your foot in it to get on the highway. So, to truly get the fuel milage back you have lost with a bigger tire, you must put gears in the truck. It cost a lot of $$$ but worth every penny.
