I think it changes a lot when it's cold to when it's hot.
I know when it's below 0, it's blowing a lot of white smoke and in 5 min of idle the DIC milage on an 8 mile trip (filled up & drove home) dropped from 21 to 12.
No real flow data, but that seems to say that cold idle is flowing about as much as the truck on the highway at 60 with a hot engine.
Given the price of fuel, I just fire it and go when the idle is smooth. Used to cold seats and cold steering wheel.
i have heard its more like a little over a quart to half gallon an hour. not stating fact. just what i have heard from some other d-max owners that let there trucks idle alot when working and such
once in a while is fine, have seen exstensive cyl wear from motors that idle there life away, think its from lack of oil since the cooler nozles are off at idle.
bumping the idle up while sitting is all you need to do. this brings up your oil psi and also gives a little higher combustion temps too. I am a heavy equip. mechanic and was on a job in friggin diavic canada(way stinkin cold) and we never shut down the equipment. At least not more than for an hour or so, outside the shop. If you did good luck on getting it fired back up. this stuff ran around the clock 24/7 for months.
yes that is it! And it is C O L D. you wouldn't believe all the mods I made to the equip. before it was shipped on the ice road, just to make sure it would survive. heaters on everything, in the eng blocks, oil pans, trans, hyd tanks. we even made get this HOT AIR intakes. everbody wants cold air and we wanted hot air.
I will talk in Canadian terms. I put on 180-200km in 10hours per day shutting it off. costed me 30.00$, so around 27-30 L. Now when I left it on for 10 hours it was 62.00$ so around 60 L.
I used .8gal per hour idling

Big rigs burn 3/4 of a gallon an hour on high idle so our little motors would burn I would say 1/4 to 1/2 gallons at the most per hour. I would hook up a high idle so you turn it on while idleing. if you dont the cyclinder walls get dried up. I dont know how but I have heard that from NUMEROUS of people. Its not good to let idle at normal RPMs for a long period of time.
In EFI is there a setting for manually adjusting the hi idle settings from where the stock PTO rpms are? Instead of 1250-1300 rpms, I'd like to drop it to about 1000 and set the upper one which is at 1700 down to about 1400. Is there a way to do this w/ EFI Live??
