used truck topper wiring

I just picked up a used Leer Topper and I need to wire up the third brake light and inside light. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I should be finding the right wires for this? On the truck (sorry)

Both power and the 3rd brake light can be found at the back by the trailer wiring. There will be a light blue (I think) wire marked CHIMSL (again I think) and that will be the 3rd brake light. CHIMSL stands for center high mounted stop lamp. The orange wire at the 7 wire plug will be +12v all the time but you need to remove a shunt and add a fuse in the under hood fuse panel. It will be marked Stud #1.

MaxPower is correct on both counts. However for the 12 volt feed for the inside cap light I ran a 12 guage wire connected to the Red box coming off the battery with an inline fuse all the way back to the pickup bed and up thru the taillight. I connected an outdoor weather proof cigarette lighter under the lip of the bed and tied my shell into that. I use the cig lighter to run my refrigerated cooler on long trips. Max Power's method is much quicker but I frequently pull a camper as well as use the cig port and wanted a separate circuit.

The monkeys who installed my Snug wired the brake light directly to the left housing (fine with that) but they tapped power for the cargo lamp from the parking lights, so I have to have the parking lights on to turn on the cargo lamp.

I'll leave it alone for now... eventually, I'll be adding a roof rack with 4 offroad driving lamps, plus two construction beacons, two backup lights, and two alley/perimeter lights... I'll be running a fused #4 directly from the battery to a distribution/relay box mounted in the bed. I'll move the cargo light when I do that.

For the cargo light, even a 50 watt lamp won't draw more than 5 amps. It's probably a 10 or 25 watt lamp, so you'll be fine with a 5a, or even a 2.5.
