How do I get around a missing Key Fob??

I'm at work and am trying to start a 2012 Tahoe. The regular driver locked the truck with the fob and took the keys home. I have a spare key, but no fob. I thought I could enter, set the alarm off, but disarm it when I turned the ignition. No dice. Alarm activates and truck won't start. Isn't there a workaround? The spare key I have is the factory chipped key.

do you have Onstar. call them have them unlock it???????????

Sounds like the key wasn't programmed for the Tahoe, normally it should disable the alarm...

No Onstar; it's a police package Tahoe. Definately the factory key that came with the truck.

the transponder for the PASS-key III system has nothing to do with the remote. The "chip" is inside the key itself.

You should be able to unlock it and start it no problem...sounds like the key wasnt programmed properly or something???

According to the owner's manual, you need to get the key into the start position in less than ten seconds after manually unlocking the door, when the alarm has been activated/ enabled via the RKE.

Good info; I thought I did but maybe it was 11. I'll try again when I go in tonight. The key has been used before so it should still work now.

press unlock on the RKE transmitter
or place the key in the ignition and
turn it to START to turn off the
alarm. The alarm will not stop if you

The older manuals specifically call out "in less than 10 seconds".

This may sound crazy but you can call him at home and deactivate it with the fob. Hold your phone up to the sensor in the windshield and have him hold the fob to the mouthpiece on his phone. It does work.
