New Alternator now truck won't turn over
I finally changed my alternator today. I believe the diodes were stuck and that is what was killing my batteries.
Let me start by saying I've had my truck on slow charge all day and I know the batteries are charged strong. I've also checked the connections and they are good. When I attempt to crank the truck after the glow plug light goes out it won't do anything. Not even a click. I even attempted with the 225 amp starter charge and nothing. I hope this isn't the problem but needs to be said. Today when I changed my alternator I removed the upper fan shroud because I also changed the belt. As I said I had the charger hooked up. After I reinstalled the fan shroud I reinstalled the electronic box (don't know what it's called) on the driver side of the fan shroud. In doing so I accidentally touch the metal back of it to the end of my positive charger clip. It arced a little but no burnt spot. I know I should have unhooked the charger but honestly never though anything would touch. Now I'm wondering if I blew a fuse or something. I pulled and gave all the fuses a sight check. All appeared fine. I could not pull the big fuse but can see down in them and again all looks fine. Now I want to add this also. When I pulled the charger off the clips arc when pulled. It never did that before so now I'm worried. If I've forgot anything feel free to ask.

There is an Emergency 9-1-1 forum at the top of the home page. I'd take the question there for a quick response. I'd stop doing anything at this point that might make matters worse until you hear from someone that may know what has happened.

i do not know for sure but maybe something you can do a quick search on and check but i have seen a few post about people jumping off other vehicles and accidently touching there tcm, which i believe is the thing you are refering to that arched, when they touched the jumper cables to it. and it fries the internal ground the tcm has which wont let the truck start. for temp. fixes they some how grounded the tcm to something. like i said you can do a search on this real quick and check i may be wrong on that being the problem but trying to give you some suggestions

Thanks tbrowne but this is not an emergency situation. I want it fixed fast but I'm not broke down anywhere. I have already stopped doing anything else so thanks for that advice.

Treyhope, I believe you are correct and unfortunately after doing some research I believe this is exactly what I've done. Hopefully I can find a TCM cheap somewhere. I checked eBay and found one for $290. I can't afford that right now.

If you short the TCM heat sink on a truck with a 6 speed-- you burn the ground wire-- and the starter will NOT work. Try grounding the heatsink to the engine with a jumper.
