Bluetooth and 2008 Sierra
I am trying to add video bluetooth (tellphone 5000vi) to my 2008 Sierra. I was wondering if anybody has successfully done this yet on a 2008. I am using a tellphone 5000vi and gmx320 lockpick.
The hangup I am having is that the gm dealer has to reflash the dvd nav unit to allow for a backup camera. This will allow the oem unit the accept video input for the video portion of the bluetooth unit. Anyone that has done this and can provide information would be greatly appreciated.... |

Success
Just so others that are interested will know....I have finally been able to have my 2008 Sierra reprogrammed at the dealer to allow for a backup camera....I now have a 320 lockpick and tellphone 5000vi bluetooth phone interface....They work seamlessly.

Can you post step by step how you did it? I too am looking to do this but thought the reflash was not necesary. It's fairly expensive at $600+ in just parts isn't it? Does your phone book and caller ID show up on the Nav?
Thanks

The trick is to get the radio reflashed...
I basically wanted a bluetooth telephone module that was seemless and didnt require mounting an LCD panel (I wanted to keep the factory look of the vehicle). I also wanted the caller ID and phonebook to sync with the vehicle. The GMX 320 and tellphone 5000vi work very well for these things. If you were to look at my vehicle, you could not tell there were any modifications.
The process is nicely outlined as posted above regarding installation. The main issue that I had was getting the GM dealer to flash my nav unit for a backup camera (required to get the caller id and other functions on your nav screen). In fact, I had to drive 3 hours to a dealership that was familiar with doing it. My local dealer would not/could not perform the task. Once i got the nav unit flashed, installation was pretty straightforward and everything works as advertised from coastaltech. Coastaltech has a package price for the tellphone 5000vi and the gmx320...It is pricey, but I think it is well worth the cost. There is simply no other system like it. I have a 2008 Sierra. There is not an option on this vehicle for a factory backup camera. Therefore, I had to get the GM dealer to flash my nav unit so that the vehicle thinks I have a backup camera. The instructions also are on the coastal tech website....
