Does the manufacturer suggest any additives ?
Since the low sulphur fuel was introduced, manufacturers have made adjustments for the lack of lubricant. This goes back atleast as far as replacement injector pumps on the 6.5TD. Not saying more isnth better. Just dont waste good money on snake oil. I have had great luck with vegetable oil. It has more luberisity values (according to what I think is non biased web forums) then all of the over the counter popular additives. And it does go through common rail injector systems without harm. ; but with newer coAmmon rail set ups I wouldn't think you d need anything but the correct software programing. You should be able to program in how you like your eggs in the morning

Better lubrication is the primary benefit, but I also see a little better mileage also.

I have a 26 gallon tank and put in 8 oz of TCW-3 2 stroke oil at every fill up. Walmart sells it labeled as marine and outboard engine oil and its about 12 bucks a gallon.

I have a 78k10 with a 6.5. I mix 1/2oz (0.5oz) per gallon when I fill up. As the previous two posts said, use TCW-3 marine rated oil. Again wallie world is the cheapest. The -3 means when it burns it's ashless which is important for not leaving carbon build up. That is also why we do not use friction modifiers, like ATF. I'm not as familiar with common rail setups,so....... keep searching! You will find plenty of info on here.
After my swap and two tanks of fuel, I started the additives along with some power service(gets cold in NE). I did notice a difference in engine noise. Either way good luck. READ THIS-http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177728
