Fuel Gelled... Truck is not used much
I went to use a buddys truck (2011 2500) this weekend and it would start but then I hit the throttle it would stall. The tank of fuel is about 4 months old so I believe its summer fuel and has gelled with our little cold snap.
I was able to tow it over to my heated garage and we are going to add some treatment. We ordered a winter and XPD gallon from here since its on sale. (Shipping is reduced!) Diesel Fuel Lube - Sale on Gallons of Optilube Can you get summer fuel not to gell or wax in the winter with enough additives? Anything else we should do?

Summer ULSD fuel (#2) begins to cloud at 24F and is fully "waxed" at 15F.
Untreated winter ULSD (#1) begins to cloud at 14F and is fully "waxed" at 0F. Most depots will treat above and beyond so that #1 ULSD will go much colder. Ironically, most "add yourself" fuel treatments will freeze around 30F if they are left alone, ie...unmixed with fuel. How cold is it there? If it is truly "waxed" or "gelled" fuel, the fuel filter life will read under 10%, since you say it starts and stays idling.

If it will run, add some "Diesel 911" (It's in a bright RED bottle) from Power Service and let it run thru the system for a bit and then drive if you can to mix it all up.
Even Wal-Mart sells it. DEWFPO

But that stuff has alchohol in it. Its not supposed to be good for the system at all. We havie it running in the garage now after everything has been heated. Planning to triple treat with the Optilube and drive it. We have the tracking number and its on its way.

If you have it in a heated garage I would just go a bit over a normal dose. Maybe 3/4 to 1 oz to a gallon. Then drive it. After sitting in the garage until you get the opti lube it will be thawed out, so if that is your issue with additive you should be good to go, however I would drive it down to a low tank and fill it up.

Our Diesel up here must be a whole lot different than yours! We will be -25c to -35c for weeks at a time...( o.k -15 to -30 F for you southern folks) Sometimes they are plugged in- not that that helps the fuel... Never had a problem in last 6 years with my '06 or '11

This fuel was still from the summer. That is the issue. We should get the optilube today and I will try to tripple treat it. We have been driving it when it gets around the 30 degree mark to try to use up the fuel, but there is a lot of fuel in there.
I hope the additive makes it better!
