Trans synd VS Dex IV

Not trying to start a fued here just asking questions. I'm soon to hit 20k on the LMM in my sig & was gonna do a tranny service. I pull a 32' GN enclosed trailer 6 days a week. (Use it to make a living) Weighs about 12k loaded. I'm planning on servicing tranny every 25 to 30k miles. While I think trans synd is a better fluid I can't seem to justify it for my applacation. What are your thoughts? (BTW I know my spelling SUCKS)

It is your transmission. I prefer to use the best possible in my expensive Allison.
I want mine to last longer than the truck.

If you go with Transyd 25k will be way to soon. Going along with that however you will need to change it two times. So say you wait to do it the first time at 25k, do it again at 50k, then wait until 150k or 200k.
Even with towing allison recommends 150,000 miles or 4 years. That is where you make up the cost.
It also helps the cooler lines last longer. Depends on your climate also, if you are in colder area the thicker fluid blows out the trans cooler lines. (not saying they still can't/wont leak, just less likely to)

I had asked a GM service writer (a while back) about if I use Transynd would it void my warranty & he said that it shouldnt but if anything happs to the tranny & they find out I had used a fluid that GM doesnt recommend theyd use that as a excuse to deny a warranty claim on the trans. I didnt want to get in a pissing contest vs what GM says to use vs what Allison says. So @ the time I figured GM warranties my trans not Allison so I stuck with Dexron 6.

I was due for a tranny drain & I swithed to Transynd today. I had hard shift jerks @ times & Transynd seemed to fix that problem. Im going to go with what Allison says to use because it is a Allison trans not a GM trans.

If your owner's manual says DEXRON-VI then it's OK. Otherwise, change to TranSynd (or other TES 295 approved fluid) but do a drain, refill, drive it for 100 miles, drain again and refill again. You can now use the allison extended drain intervals.

I changed to TranSynd - I did a drain and fill on mine (at 700 miles and 3000 miles - before and after my first tow)). Used it in my 2005 too. I tow a fifth wheel so I wanted the qualities of a synthetic fluid and wanted to use what Allison recommends for added protection (heat and life of the fluid).

I had similiar issue with the a jerk going into drive. I went with Amsoil Torque-Drive as the whole truck is going Amsoil. It shift super smooth now and the sometimes jerk is gone. The retire Allison engineer on another board said to change the fluid once, drive 30 minutes and change it again and your good for 150k using TranSynd.

I don't why the factory doesn't use TranSynd. I would think they might avoid some warranty issues that would offset the additional few bucks a truck.

Amsoil Torque-Drive is identical to the Transynd, however it is MUCH cheaper to buy and is what I use, however I do mix the two brands of fluids. Now justifying it... the DEX6 clearly does the job and does it well, the Transynd and Amsoil do the exact same job, but have more extreme capabilities. If something gets too hot unexpectedly a better quality fluid can save parts.

I don't know about Torque-Drive being cheaper, I actually paid more then TranSynd would have cost me. But I already had 2 gallons of TD in the tranny, so didn't want to mix with TranSynd. TD cost me 48 at Napa for 2 gallons and with shipping about 55 or so buying online.

I've been running the DEX 6 ever since the change over.
Never had a problem with my Ally.
I do/have been changing my Ally spin-on filter every 5k and do a fluid change at 25k since '03.
REMEMEBER... your spin-on filter is your "main" filter" element.
