This is where the fuel filter access door would help you. Instead of trying to replace a filter from above and trying to work around the A/C lines and all the other BS in the way put a fuel filter access door in the passenger fenderwell and do it thru the wheel well its so much easier and worth every penny of it.

For your truck the Classic Door is what you would need. Combine that with a Fumoto Valve and maintenance of your duramax just got much easier and cleaner.

You could look at this in a positive way he saved about 32 cents using the contaminated fuel from the old fuel filter to fill the new Wix plastic/nylon quality fuel filter.

I thought I was losing it when I tried to put a new filter on our LB7 last year. Wix plastic just didn't tighten up. Glad this thread popped up. We installed a metal one. I still have the plastic one in a box somewhere. It's kind of an expensive filter, not to fit right.

As easy as it is to use the primer, install the filters empty, the use the primer to fill them...this ensures your engine sees nothing but clean filtered fuel. Full slow strokes of the primer and it is pretty quick.

Yup, this is what you do when you use the built-in primer - the fuel filter fills automatically. As a result, the center of the filter is filled with CLEAN fuel.

When you dump the diesel from the old filter into the new, you are tranferring all that gunk into the new filter and probably into the downstream side. Your injectors have to eat all that trash.

Sometimes people trip over dollars to pick up pennies.
