George Morrison posted on here a while back that the base used for Delvac 1300S is one of the best quality bases used in conventional oils today. Something along the lines of it being close to a 50W IIRC.

Delo's CI-4+ formulation used a Group II while the Delvac dino used a Group I in the CI-4+ formulation. Hopefully George can chime in here to let us know if Delvac dino still uses a Group I in their CJ-4 formulation. No offense to George, but he sells Mobil products and I expect him to tout Delvac's products. Are they good? You bet. Is Delo good? You bet. I base my decision on oils by UOA's and how they perform in diesel engines. Delo is a top notch performer and I'll put it up against any dino or synthetic oil on the market when it comes to stellar wear numbers within an engine. I'm also sold on the formulation of Delvac 1, Rotella Syn 5W-40, and Schaeffer oils.

Some interesting fact however each base oil has different characteristics. A group II might be great base oil and a II+ might be good too. You really have to look to see if the blend of base oil and additives are correct. You can have poorly balanced oils where the additives fall out. Nobody runs only base oils or only additives in their engines or machines. Always look at the whole picture.

Good choice- I prefer flax myself. Oh and Delo 400. Like Shawn said- it's good. Many UOA's by many users to prove it as well.
