Replacing ball joints in 2001 4 wheel drive chevy duramax
I've read the postings from some of you guys about ball joint replacement.My question is can i replace my ball joints upper and lower without replacing both control arms

Yup, but get good quality lower ball joints and make sure they are tight going in.

I replaced all of mine with moogs this winter and zero problems

a ball joint press kit like this one shouldnt run much more than $50, just remove the knuckle and keep the control arms on the truck.
the whole job is no more than a couple beers

The upper can be tricky, its a real short hole and pressing them just a little cockeyed will stretch the hole. When i did mine ( all 4), i really didnt like how easy the uppers went in and sure enough they popped out of the ride home from work. But, i changed mine around 190k, so who knows how many sets had be pushed in and out.

ROOtS: 93 2500 4x4 rclb. 5 spd 97-up block with intake off/ IP off the 93, IP turned up, timing advanced slightly, manual waste gate running about 14psi through a gm-8, 3 inch exhaust straight through from the turbo to the 5 inch stacks behind the cab. ........ That old gal has been gone quite a while now and i still miss her :-( 01 GMC 2500hd ecsb Dmax/Alli. 4" exhaust to 5" single stack,EDGE Insight CTS, EFI Live running Nick tunes, Suncoast stage IV, Kryptonite center link/tierods, PISK by ME, 305/55/R20 Cooper Zeon's on Rockstars. Eaton E-locker. So cal stage I heads, and a little bit of laughing gas. 07.5 2500hd LMM, LTZ, CCSB, Some kinda beefy tie rods and PISK, S475 over stock by Extreme Pile Racing (EPR), Big dipper tranny, 40% over dipper sticks, ATP tuning, Air Dog Lift pump. |
