my step van used to do that, and that is a good name for it by the way. I replaced the "stabilizing links" and, afterward, realized all i really needed to do was replace the bushings on the stabilizing links. After that it never did it again, and that was three years ago. My van has the I-beam front axle and front leaf springs as well and the stabilizing links connected to the sway bar, i think. It has been a while since i messed with them.

Had that happen years ago , turned out to be a nut in the steering box that backed off . On another truck it was the stablizer , but that mostly showed up when braking. Good luck

I had the dreaded shakes too. My problem also turned out to be the steering stabilizer. Looking at it, you could not tell that it had leaked or anything. When I removed it to check it out, it was if the internal piston had come off of the rod. It moved in and out without any resistance. So, moral of the story, don't just look, move and pull on stuff when checking it out.

The only time I experienced that was on an old Ferd F-150 about 1970 model. Put new tierods on it, and it was good to go.
