Alligator giving bad advice about their filter adapters

I ordered one of their fuel filter adapters and specifically called to ask them if I had to remove the check ball and spring. I was assured that I did not have to. I installed the filter and adapter and my truck ran for a few days, then would not start last night.

So in freezing temperature with a flashlight between my teeth, I got to troubleshoot the problem. After I removed the check ball and spring, it started right up and is running fine now.

Its not hard to remove the check ball and spring, but I would have rather done it in the daylight when its 65 outside, then at night when its freezing. Here's the instructions on how to remove the check ball and spring, from the guy who developed (not copied) the filter adapter in the first place.

http://nicktane.com/osc/userfiles/fi...structions.pdf

I'm seriously pissed that Alligator is telling people they don't have to take the check ball and spring out, because apparently in some instances, this is not true.

A HUGE thanks to Dane at Mad Jack (where I got the Donaldson filter from) for taking my call last night and helping me troubleshoot the problem. Alligator didn't answer the phone when I called.

I had bad service when I ordered from them too. I took about 5 calls and over a two months to get a gauge package and everything was sent separately :screwy: and I think my order is still on notice because they messed up and wouldn't email me back.

I will not deal with them again.

Dude you have no idea how pissed i am at alligator,, they sent me a poorly machined adapter and sent metal through my fuel system. immediatly they blamed the gm filter head and then blamed me, making me out to be a idiot, i had a thread going and dp has since removed it, alligator is a advertiser so go figure. they were saying i cross threaded it, have you ever seen something with only four threads per inch crossthread, now they dont even sell one with there name on it, they are totaly bolt on tool bags. I have two videos on youtube they are long and i feel like a jackass on camera but i had to do something

Wow, thanks for the genius insight! Next time when my truck won't start because the checkball is blocking the fuel from getting to the engine, I'll be sure to tell it that some guy on the forums said it should work just fine with the check ball installed and I'm sure it will start right up.

Getting stranded on the side of the road... at night... in freezing temperatures... with limited tools is NOT FUN. So rather than other people listen to your advice, I say that anybody that chooses to buy one of Alligator's adapter should just take the ball out and not experience the trouble I did.

Your thread was pulled because you have threatened legal action, any conversations about the subject should be done in private. If you have contacted a lawyer, you would be advised that already.
And it was not the staff that pulled it.

If the problem was that the check ball was causing the problem--- why did it run OK a couple days after you installed the adapter--??? If it was the check ball problem-- it would have shown from the start.

You probably had a seal leaking, or the adapter was not seated. I am sure Alligator has done research and testing and determined that that leaving the check ball in place will not cause problems. You admitted that you did NOT remove the filter housing to install the adapter, as the instructions stated. I believe that you are way out of line to bad-mouth Alligator in the open thread.

The housing seals/o-rings have been a problem on the Duramax for a long time.

What instructions? I DID NOT receive any installation instructions, just a part in a box. So, I specifically called them prior to installation and was told this is install procedure:
1. take the OEM filter off
2. put the adapter on
3. put the new filter on
I double-checked that I did not need to remove the check ball and spring, and they confirmed that I did not have to.

I have no idea why it ran for a few days. What I am sure of is that when the truck wouldn't run, all I did is remove the check ball and then it ran again.

Maybe there is more going on with my truck that what I know. But if there is, it sure is a coincidence.

They've already admitted that they had tolerance problems with some of their parts, which would cause the stainless part not to push up on the check ball as intended. I was probably one of the lucky people to get one of the bad parts. So how many more people need to receive bad parts and be left with a non-running truck? The best solution seems like taking an extra 5 minutes and taking the check ball out during install, then you're guaranteed not to have the problem - thus the reason for my post.

So you guys are all huffy puffy because you bought some knock off part to save a few bucks and it didn't work right and there's no instructions. Nicktane has been working fine for over 2 years now....

I agree. However, the Nicktane part was $50 more than the Alligator when I ordered it. I've almost ordered the Nicktane part a few times, but couldn't bring myself to spend $120 on it.
