High Pitch Whistle PLEASE HELP!!!

03 Duramax has a high very high pitch whistle. Seems to only happen under a load. When I feather the throttle a bit I can make it go away but as soon as I get back into it a bit it comes back. This is not turbo whine just a very annoying ear piercing whistle. The motor has about 60k miles and the turbo was replaced under warranty about 500 miles ago.

Please help my ears are killing me!!!!!

Sounds like you have a boost leak or an exhaust leak. Bring it back to the dealer.

I have had it to the dealer they tell me that they can't find any thing or they couldn't here the noise. I am really quite disgusted.

I have had the high pitch sound in my 2001 Chev Silverado since date of purchase in 2001. Everyone who hears it says that it is in the turbo and is just the nature of the beast...

Mine was doing that and others here suggested I tighten all the clamps on the intake and charged air cooler (blue piping). It worked.

yeah is it is that high pitched of a whistle i would have to say it isnt the turbo....but then again i could be wrong...but do as SMSHIVER said tighten all the clamps and see what they say, and also find a different dealer, or when they go test drive it go with them and do the same thing you do when you hear the noise.then they cant throw the BS flag out at ya.

I spent a lot of time also thinking it wasn't turbo whine, thinking instead it was some sort of electronically-generated noise. It IS turbo whine. With mine, it would happen under light acceleration, and any slight movement of the throttle would make it go away. After I installed a boost gauge I noted that the whine was emitted when the boost level was about 2 PSI. I was able to reluctantly live with it except when towing my 5th wheel, when the conditions were such that it whined constantly during level highway driving, splitting my head as I went down the road. I tried a lot of different things to get around it. What finally worked was adding a stop on the wastegate actuator rod so the wastegate is held slightly open. This has totally eliminated the whine except during rare occasions, and when it is there it's not as loud. My maximum boost has gone down from 22 psi to 14 psi. A bummer, but it was accept that or dump the truck. It seems like most people can ignore this noise, but there are a few of us whose heads must resonate at precisely the same frequency of the whine.

I have a 2003 2500 HD and only notice it while I'm towing (since the vehicle was new), especially when pulling the boat out of a long launch ramp. I noticed it again 2 weeks ago and decided to take it to my dealer (3rd time for this) after reading your posting.

I get the same result, the dealer says they can't duplicate the problem. This is very frustrating because I only have about 1,000 mi left on my warranty and I have a feeling they'll find out it's something serious after my warranty expires!

It has to be something with the Turbo Intake piping. Check the fitting where the Turbo Boost is tapped into. The line may have a hole. Mine does not make this type of sound. Only 40K though..Jim
