Duramax Leaking Oil???

Well was fooling around earlier and low and behold look at the bottom of the engine and on the oil pan I see oil on the bottom of the pan. While I was parked it leaked one small drop. I wiped the pan off came back no oil anybody have an idea whats going on here? I sure as hell dont want a darn oil leak. If so would warranty cover this?

Heavy,

I had a leak fixed under warranty. They resealed the oil pan (wasn't the problem), pulled the transmission and sealed something on the back of the block. Worked for a while. Changing oil yesterday, oil leak is back!

had a oil leak on my 05 with 500 miles. on the corner of the tranny/ oil pan. stealer pulled tranny, rear main seal, turbo off twice, to re-seal? ended up being bolts in the side of the block(main cap bolts). after 5000 miles.

I think there is a vent up there some where mine does it also but no spot's on the ground and the oil level is still up there. dave

At the front of the engine, there is a vent tube for the crankcase. It is common for oil mist to build up and form a drop once in a while. Check out the vent tube and wipe it off. That's probably where the oil came from.

I had a leak that wouldn't go away. It was a flaw in the casting of the oil filter adapter. I had to take it in 5 times for them to get it right...

HeavyChevy...If you haven't noticed any oil on the ground or loss of oil on the dipstick, the chances are near 100% you're venting an oil mist out the vent tube. It's hard to see but if you lay under the truck it comes out at the front right corner of the oil pan. Diesel's are notorious for this!

If you are making oil (adding fuel or antifreeze), it will make big signs of oil on the ground and the bottom of your truck. A slight misting on the oil pan and skid plate are noting to worry about.
