At what temp should I be running?

My 02 LB7 runs fairly well, but always seems low on the temp scale. Hooked up a Snap On Solus this morning & I'm running at 172F, I get the feeling it should be warmer? It seems as though it's never in closed loop.

In the cooler months of Western North Carolina that's about what my Duramax LB7 runs. In the summer time I do see 185+.

Is that on a normal day or a hot day?

Have you ever cleaned out your radiator? After I did mine the temp went down quite a bit. There was a bunch of dirt and other crap in it.

i know my radiator needs flushing, i am normally around 210, but if i go down a hill it quickly drops to about 180, i was told however that 210 is normal running temp for these things...

At 50 degF, my truck runs around 160-165. When it is 75degF or hotter, it runs around 190. It has been this way since I bought it new. The dealer said it is normal. Of course when I asked them, it was under warranty. If I asked them now, I'm sure they would gladly change my thermostats. Since I'm about to change my injectors, I'll go ahead and change my thermostats since the coolant will be drained down.
