Egr causing coolant pressure?

Can a bad EGR cause coolant pressure and coolant loss?

not likely. Check your oil to see if it's milky in appearance. If it is, i hat to tell ya it's a head gasket.

Oil is good. Been loosing water, some out the tail pipe. Probably a head gasket though. Just dropped it off at the shop to get it checked out.

The EGR has a EGR Cooler, and it can cause the exhaust to Pressurize the coolant system if the cooler is leaking and the EGR Valve is closed. When you shut the engine off, it will leak into the tube leading to the egr valve, and when the EGR Valve opens, it will/may leak into the intake.

Just a thought, I have been known to be wrong..........

The shop called back. Found coolant on #4 cylinder. They will pull head and check it out. Hopefully just bad gasket and not head. If it is a bad gasket, and the other side checks out ok from pressure testing, should I go ahead and replace the other side head gasket while they have it, or leave it alone? Im thinking, if its ok, to leave it alone. It is $1500 per head to replace gaskets, maybe I'll call it good and hope the other side stays good.

you are not entirely wrong tolli, it would be no different than a big truck pushing coolant. not sure on the d-max but on our trucks it's an external cooler and they will generally get a pinhole internally and push coolant out the reservoir, and/or leak at the cooler itself.

Me too. They had quoted 3k to replace both head gaskets if needed. Hopefully the one side is only bad. Would you tell them to go ahead and replace both?

Mine did the exact same thing... But I drove it a little to long and ended up hydro locking a cylinder... lesson learned... dont mess around with headgasket issues...haha
