Weak CP3 ??

Simple..
How many of you guys have had to replace cp3 pumps due to low rail pressure?
Did you have a lift pump?
Mileage where replacement was necessary.
Thanks
Wags

I did. It was done around 120,000 had the AD150 and dropped a P1093 on every tune. Actual rail pressure was around 9000 psi @ WOT. Went with a LBZ pump and modded regulator and was able to write in an extra 1500 psi on my big tunes rail pressure that's held easily.

Replaced mine at 170,000, and yes there was a lot of black smoke, and no power.

Mine didn't seem to produce large amounts of black smoke. Typically that's caused by a lack of air on a stock tune or a badly overfueled truck with a tune. That really isn't the case with low rail pressure, I guess it could be a case of poor atomization. You have went all through the boost system I suspect (wastegate, IC tubes etc)? Have you been able to pull codes off from it?

Look at the boost tubes for the black smoke, as for the bad mileage, could be injectors. Usually a bad pump will throw codes, even injectors. A bad boost tube will not, gotta be careful not to mis-diagnose. My truck ran worse than a gasser above 2k rpm with a bad pump. It was like I hit a wall and the truck was very flat. Getting a new pump made it drive like a new truck, and now its all downhill. New trans, now I'm looking at internals and twins, this truck will break me before its over.
