Duramax just spins, won't start.

Hello friends, My wife got in my 2003 2500hd truck and started backing up to turn around and it just died and won't restart. Never had a minutes trouble with it before, running just fine. I got home from work and it spins the engine but acts like it's getting no fuel, won't start. Any ideas where to start looking? I got fuel about a week ago, probably drove it 100 miles or so sence then. Changed the filters with last oil change about 8 months ago. We don't drive the truck once a week so it hadn't got many miles on the oil change. I hadn't touched anything intill I get some advice. Thanks inadvance for any help.

Fuel filter may be getting air in around the seal. Is the purge pump on top soft when you push it down?

change the fuel filter. if that wasnt it, change the WIF sensor on the bottom of the fuel filter....also check the bleed screw on the top of the fuel filter housing

Thanks for all the info guys. I just got home from work. Stopped on the way and picked up a filter, won't be off till Sunday. I did push the purge pump, it seemed soft about the first five pushes then got hard. I tried to start it again, no luck. It looked like there was fuel underneath the filter after I tried to crank it. I will try to get the filter changed Sunday, and check the filter housing, also need to charge the batteries first. Thanks again for the information. I will keep you informed.

i had a similar occurrence happen to my wife while i was in OR.

turns out the WIF sensor came loose and dumped all the fuel out of it. she tightened it up, cracked the bleeder screw and primed the hell out of it. she had to turn the motor over 5 or 6 times before it started.

i would try that first. make sure the fuel filter is tight and make sure the wif sensor is tight. crack the bleeder screw and prime till you get lots of fuel spitting out.

My wif sensor was loose and fuel was running on the ground and my truck still ran and started fine. I didnt have a lift pump at that time ether so I had a stock fuel system.

You guys nailed it. Installed new filter, did look like the O-Ring around the wif sensor could have been leaking. Anyway, charged the batteries, primed the filter. Did have to turn it over maybe 10 or 15 times, but fired up. Thanks loads guys.
