glow plug feedback circuit

code p0380c....trucks seems to run and start same as always..just fine, but engine light is on with this code; i'm new to the duramax's so i'm not familiar with everything; anybody experience this or able to help me out? thanks

trucks an 04' with bout 67000 on it.

you most likely have a glow plug or 2 open. is yours a cali emmision truck?

Glow plug relay. Glow plug controller. I have had the same code before. I believe the controller was replaced on mine.

no trucks federal as far as i know; it's messed with though. has that ppe programmer and extra pump on it. pretty sure that wont do anything to affect glow plug related items though..

I've read about the California emissions mentioned several times in reference to the P0380 error code. I am also having this problem. I pulled the interior fender well and checked the drivers side and I had one glow plug open. I replaced it and reset the code and still have the error. I just haven't had a chance to check the passenger side.

My truck was originally purchased in California. I'm sure it was manufactured to the California standards. What is different with the California truck and why might that contribute to this error?

Really Easy...

It's really easy to do. If you search you can find more detail but in a nutshell here is how you do it.

First, remove the inner fender wells, they have plastic pop-pins that hold them together. Take a small screwdriver and pop the middle portion of the pin out and it comes out easily.

Next, look for the glow plugs, they are where the spark plugs should be and have a screw on connection. Remove the nut and the wire going to the glow plug.

Now the easy part. Take a 12 volt test light and hook the ground clamp to the positive side of your battery. While the glow plug is still in place, touch the test side to the tip of the glow plug. If the light comes on, the glow plug is good. If the light doesn't come on, it is open (or burned out).

Put a 1/2" deep well socket on the ones you find bad and remove them. The one I replaced was at the Chevy dealership for $19.

Took less than 30 minutes for everything...
