If it smokes bluish-white at idle after warming up, then it is likely the injectors, and likely the condition that is covered by the extended warranty.

Check the oil level to ensure that your crankcase is not filling up with fuel from a cracked injector body.

White / Blue Smoke

Mine does the same thing at idle. I was at a buddies house with my truck running and him talking to me threw the passager side window and asked me what kinda fuel I run because it was bluish smoke coming from the exhaust. Will this be covered under the policy?

I sometimes see a puff of white smoke come out of the exhaust when I first crank it after it's been parked for a while, like a few hours. Is this similar to what you guys are talking about or would you guys consider this normal since it's only a quick puff. My dealer said the truck seem to be running good, so I'm not sure what to make of it.

RAFCAR,
The quick puff at startup is not the same as producing blue/white smoke at idle after the engine is warmed up.

I noticed the smoke most while stopped at a traffic light at night, with headlights from the car behind you shining on the exhaust. It was very noticeable then.

Also, the exhaust smell had a strong odor of partially-burned diesel. This smell is not normal for the Duramax engine.

HBruns,

Did you notice the smoke on your truck during the day? Only at night? I see the smoke on my truck only at night after it is hot...and I need another cars headlights.

I see nothing during the day. Balance rates/mpg/power are fine. actually mpg is excellent.

But I feel an injector is just about to go on the blink and my dealer says bad rates they will change all 8 no questions...but I do not have bad rates.

Mine started smoking at an idle, ie stoplights, and the first dealer I took it to told me it wasn't injectors cause there was no fuel in the oil, WRONG. So i continued to drive it until the smoke would pass me up at a stop light and took it to another dealer who told me it was probably the injectors and to bring it in when I could be without it for a couple of days (Still no fuel in the oil) and they replaced all 8, even offered a rental truck at no charge. So it may take going to a couple diff dealers (first one didn't even pull it in the shop) to get it taken care of.
