Can't Reset Oil Change Reminder

Hey all. In my Information Center, my Change Engine Oil light won't reset. I have tried using the go go pedal, with the ignition in the "on" position. Tried resetting a whack load of times.

Its an 02. No steering wheel controls. I am running Rotella 5W40 synthetic, for the first time. Only have about 5,000 KLMs (3,000 miles) on the oil. Never had a problem before, re-setting.

My concern is if the Oil Life Monitor is finding out something that I am not aware of. It has the algorhythem thingy going on and may not like the 5W40.

Any thoughts?

They are just finicky. Make sure you are getting 100% throttle, remove any floormats from under go pedal, even pull out on the throttle pedal real hard to bend the firewall bracket toward you a bit to achieve 100%, these are all things that have worked in the past. Can also be done w/Tech 2 if you have access. You could put water in there, it should still reset.

Oil Reminder Reset Issue

Dealer says need reflash w/new GM maintenance schedule to maybe cure reseting problem??? Dealer could not reset after last service. I managed to get a reset w/no problem. May go for reflash prior to 35,000 just to update since dealer made offer?

Will it rest if you hold the trip rest button while the oil life percentage is visable?

'01 and '02 don't have the little digital display, and can't toggle through the menus like '03 and newer trucks with steering wheel buttons. The older trucks just have message center which lights up with a Change Engine Oil message. The reset procedure is: Switch On, Engine Off, Fully depress and fully release accelerator 3 times in less than 5 seconds and the light flashes to confirm success.
Anything that interferes with the fully applied or fully released postions of the go pedal will prevent reseting.

Same procedure applies to newer trucks without the steering wheel switches.

Can't Reset Oil Change Reminder

I just did the reset on my '02 about 2 weeks ago. First one I ever did on it- I bought it used last fall. It wouldn't reset the first two times I tried it. Then I slowed down- used the old "one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three" counting technique to give about one push per second. And I made sure I got the pedal down good and hard on the floor. It reset the first time I tried that.

I have ran across some stubborn ones before. They will usually reset if I pump the pedal 4 times instead of 3.

Interesting...... Hit the pedal five times and it finally reset. I must have tried resetting close to twenty different times. I have never got a flash confirming the reset.

Grrrrrrrrrr!
