LB7 DURAMAX problems??????

hello everyone i just bought a 01 2500hd gmc sierra CC SB 4x4, with duramax, only 58,000, now i have read on here about crappy injectors bad head gaskets, now i use to own a 94 f 250 with a IDI diesel, and i sold it to buy some land. now my question is what kinda problems i am going to run into? i have never owned a GMC product before never own anything but a ford i thought i would give GMC a try. and i found a deal on this truck at the dealer for 24,000, so any heads up would be great

You might have a truck that the injectors will last a little bit longer or one like mine and others. I just had injectors put in at 70,000 and expect to have them again next year. And at $5,000 a pop, when that warranty goes the truck is gone. Also the ECM doesn't play well with the EDGE w/ attitude and some other after market items. After reading these forums about the ALLISON and DMAX I'm kinda of disapointed about the strength and reliability of them. I haven't had to many issues with mine but this web site keeps you educated.

Sounds nice. I would use an additive in the fuel. Lubricate the injectors now. ULSD does not have the same lubricating quality as USD. Make sure all filters changed on your records. May have an oil analysis done. Amsoil and others do it. A vin check is wise. You could have a qualified tech (other than dealer) with a TECH II diagnostic look at the engine parameters and vitals to make sure all is well. Do your homework and learn as much as you can about the way your Duramax operates. It will help you diagnose problems before they get real bad. Trust me.

okay cool i got the vin pulled and some spring bushing has been replaced twice the tail gate cable replaced and a electrical problem replaced, now some said the fuel line went in the side of the head? mine are on top of the valve cover and there are four lines on each cover and goes stright down in the cylinder. my bulid date was 4/17/01 sold date was in may. so would this be consider a 02 LB7???

i do know additives i had to use them in my old IDI. and i had to replace the injectors on it and do some more work on the fuel system on it.

not a total idiot on diesel just a GM

I am just about to roll 90,000 trouble free miles on my LB7...well actually I did have the high pressure fuel pump replaced at 9,000 miles, but that is it. Still running the original injectors and have no real signs of needing new ones anytime soon. I started running the GM diesel fuel conditioner at 60,000 miles because of the new ULSD fuel that hit the market in October of 2006. My truck is 100% stock and I am fully confident I will see 250,000+ miles out of this truck.

Get an OIL ANALYSIS done at your local KENMORE truck repair.
change your fuel filter before 15000 miles.
change regular engine oil every 5000 miles and change all other oils oils to synthetic.
and its time to change engine antifreeze.

good luck
drive safe

If you read here to much, you will be scared to death to drive your truck.

Drive it, and if something happens, address it then.

I to was very concerned about my purchase, but I know have 181,000 miles, and my truck is running better everyday.

Welcome to the site.
