Cylinder numbering / firing order
Done a few searches but found nothing relevant so far. Can anyone tell me which cylinder number is which? From what I can see starting closest to the rad is PS front being #1. Therefore working from rad back on PS is 1,3,5,7 and DS is 2,4,6,8. Am I looking at this right?
I have a ticking noise DS of engine which is getting louder and fuel mileage is down to about 12mpg (all unloaded). Also on high idle it makes clouds of blue/white raw diesel smoke. Dealer hears noise but says its nothing until it produces codes. I'm saying injectors but have been complaining about this for 5 months now. They now say they will start a fuel consumption test. I'm more worried about a bad injector washing out a cylinder and damaging the engine. I've read tons of threads on 2 and 7 cylinder injector harness and the odd #8 cylinder failure, but looking at how I interpret cylinder numbers 2 and 7 are at complete opposite ends of the engine. I just want to know what is where and which cylinder is which. Thanks in advance

Well, I know the firing order is 1 – 2 – 7 – 8 – 4 – 5 – 6 – 3 and the passenger side is odd and drivers side is even numbered and number one is pass, front.
Your info looks correct, but I'd wait for someone to chime in that has the Factory service manuals handy just in case.

Thanks guys...now I just have to work on finding a dealer to co-operate with me to troubleshoot injector noise.
I am actually willing to pay shop time to diaganose, buy parts and get some resolve to this issue. I'd then go after GM for re-imbursement. It seems unless it fits a cookie cutter symptom, they wont even try to find the actual problem. But I guess I'm not the first one to experience this type of service and support. Thanks
