replace egr valve

I have a 2005 gmc sierra 2500 hd. code came up for a bad egr valve. truck has 98,000 mi on it. Its running a little ruff othewise you would not know anything is wrong.truck has a 6.6 duramax diesel. Can any one tell me how to check and replace egr if necessary.

The egr is fairly easy to replace. Drain some coolant, unbolt it.
My suggestion would be not to replace it.

Unplug it instead and pay somebody with EFI live to change your EGR diagnostics to "not reported". This way you will not get a CEL. I have not purchased an EFI licence in a while, but last check they were $100 per truck. (IMO, cheaper than replacing the egr and better for the truck)

custom tuning software, two lift pumps, big exhaust, lousy electric Fans, Driver Exhaust Manifold, head studs, built trans, pup-rad, Tie sleeves, modified fuel pick-up & missing EGR & PCV.
