Injector removal

I've had a strong raw diesel exhaust smell for a while so I put the Predator on last night to check balance rates...#6 @ -6. Time for a new stick...but I've got two on the shelf.

I'm at the point where I want to remove the injector, but it won't budge. Its a PITA to get in there behind the wiring harness and everything but for the guys that have done it, how did you get the really stuck ones out. I'm pretty sure all of mine are original and that means they've been in there for quite some time. Everything else is out, I'm just trying not to buy the OTC tool for $100-ish dollars if I can avoid it.

skleppy,

I did the injector swap myself on my last LB7, and I followed the step by step pictorial that is on this forum for the LB7.

Since there isn't a lot of difference between that engine and an LLY, I would expect that you would be able to use the same tool that they show in the pictorial. I bought one for less than $10 and it worked very well. Check the pictorial and see if it'll work for you.

Again, I state that I expect that removing the injector can be done with the same tool or similar, but I don't know for sure. Someone correct me if I'm wrong! Good Luck!

If it is I'm guessing this is the tool you used then...

I only had one that was tough to get out and funny enough it was my #6 as well. I used pry bars like these (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sh...8/media/images) and a buddy up top pulling and wiggling the injector from the top while I went in through the fencer well with the pry bar. Pry between the hold down and the hold down platform.

The deal with mine was the o-ring came out of the groove in the injector and was being smashed between the injector and the injector bore. Just had to slowly work it out.

I did the same thing this morning, dropped the fender liner out and I got in there with a pry bar in the same spot. That stick didn't even think about wanting to move. I'm going to soak it with penetrating fluid this weekend...though I'm not sure that will do any good and try it again on sunday or monday. I'm hoping I don't have to bend over and go to the dealer just to swap a stick out.

Which end did you get under the injector...the point or the hook?

The hook, and then you just lever the long end away from you to pop the injector straight up. It does take some manouevring to get the hook under the side protrusions on the injector, while still having the fulcrum of the tool on something solid enough to be able to pry up on.

Try wiggling the injector in all directions to free it up first. Good Luck.

You're not trying to get the clamp off with the injector still in bore, right? That clamp comes out with the injector. All of mine just popped out after I stopped trying to the clamp out ...
