My rules of thumb for EGT is to hold anything under 1200 forever, up to 1250 for minutes, over 1250 for moments, over 1350 for seconds. YMMV.
The edge units show engine load. Fyi

Your call. Looking away from the road period is dangerous.

you are correct but looking left or right like at your radio of gps that sit on the dash is better than looking above your rearview mirror. I could mount it all ugly on the dash or try to make it all pretty and hide it down below or next to the radio.

X2

Gauges are great but limited in what you can monitor without looking like an airplane cockpit.

Edge Insight can monitor upt to 8 PIDs at once on the same screen (and control EFI if you ever go that route).

LLYs are rated for 1350 constant duty...I tow 18.5k a lot and spend a lot of time in the 1300s without issue.

What do you see on some of the I80 grades up to Truckee?

That's why if you run analog guages you clock them so that the needles point straight up in their normal positions (or for egt, at max desierd egt).
