losing the gas pedal

We have an 04 GMC Duramax that keeps giving us problems. Some of you that read this have probably helped us before. For that thank you! But now we have a new problem. When you are driving down the highway as you accelerate the truck cuts in and out and acts like its in limp mode. But the gas pedal doesn't work at all you push it and nothing happens. So as the truck loses speed you have to pull on the shoulder and turn it off. Then you wait about a minute turn it back on ad it works again! Until you either get on it hard or you start to slow down and then it goes out again. The check engine light does not come on at all. We just put a new gas pedal sensor in today and if anything it made the problem worse.

We have an edge juice with attitude on it but we usually keep it on 1.

I have an 05 it was doing the same thing and it blew one of the freeze plugs out of the cp3. I only have not tore down enough i found the plug it looks like something hit it it has a bite mark in it. It started doing that same thing and about two weeks later here i am.

Try unplugging the Edge and see if it still happens.

How old is the fuel filter?

have you checked the wire harness by the alternator bracket for any rub through?

The fuel filter is only a few weeks old. We turned the edge off didn't make a difference. As for the wires I guess it could be a possibility we haven't checked that. Its been doing this for a few days but only maybe once a day. Today it did it about 25 times within 4 hours while we were on the road. Finally it just quit now it won' t start. It will be going to chevy within the next few days unfortunately. Its going to cost a boat load.lol

I don't have a working "gas" pedal in my truck either, a working accelerator/diesel/fuel pedal yes, gas no....

In all seriousness, I echo taking out the Edge. Take it all the way out of the truck. I assume it plugs into the harness like a Banks tuner does, so take everything out. Look at the pins in the electrical connectors and reassemble everything and see if the truck still does it then.

By shutting down and restarting, you are resetting a component.

The dealer will want the Edge unplugged to correctly diagnose the problem, no sense in paying them to do that.

Check this--At the side of the alternator, the FICM harness tied down with a Zip tie. Cut the tie and pull the wires from the harness and inspect for cuts and wear. The sharp corner of the FICM bracket where it is tied down to, cuts into the wires. Repair and insulate the harness with a short piece of heater hose.

If it still does it-- Remove the Edge completely for a test.

Gas/ diesel whatever. I always say I'm going to get gas when it's really diesel. Just a habit. But this weekend if they don't take it to the shop during the week i will have them check the wires and stuff. As of right now it's sitting 140 miles away from us on the interstate waiting to be picked up by some friends.

So since the injectors were making a ticking noise we went ahead and changed the last 3 of the original injectors that were in the truck. Now it's back to normal.

You're saying that it all ok now?

If the problem comes up again, get on the highway, set the cruise and see if it still does it. Use the cruise accelerate/de-celerate to see if you can duplicate the problem. If the cruise works good, then it is likely a wiring problem.
If it is an intermittent problem, it is likely wiring, if repeatable, it is likely mechanical.
While changing the injectors you may have wiggled a wiring and solved the problem, for a short term. These older trucks are now starting to have corrosion, and loose connections. Finding and fixing them is a challenge.
