Deleting fuel cooler

Can the fuel cooler be deleted since they are no longer put on the new trucks. Wondering because I'm installing an airdog2 ( horrible instructions) and the fittings on my cooler are rotted like crazy. Would like to buy new fittings.

I deleted mine last summer and have had no problems yet, it was also rotten and had bad fittings. I just bypassed with fuel hose.

I haven't found the link yet, but I recall a thread on pulling ~10k lbs loads with the winter cover on in 30 to 40 dgree temp.

He was monitoring the fuel temp sensor and claimed that the fuel temp was spiking with the cover on, so he removed his when he pulls.

You probably need the cooler in Arizona, not so much perhaps up in Alberta. Only way to know is monitor you fuel temps before and after removal. Not really sure what range that the fuel temp needs to be kept for best performance.

This brings up the question... Where is the fuel temp sensor at? Is it monitoring the return side fuel temp, the intake side temp, or temp in the tank at the pickup/return?

I've watched the fuel temps last summer with the Insight CTS, and even in extreme heat have only seen 114F temps. In seeing these, I'm wondering where it's picking up the temps from.

thought you were never supposed to tow with the winter cover on no matter what.. i did when it was below zero and it still ran a little warmer then the truck would have liked and my fuel mileage went the hell. if the cooler can be deleted i would like to. with a titan tank i think its pretty much blocked off from airflow anyways if i remember right...

I would leave it on as it does serve a purpose. Fuel temp is monitored at the engine return line and will often run 150-170°f. I'd suggest you consider a "returnless" lift pump setup and you will have much less grief.

well I ended up leaving it on there. Thought I had to take a fitting off but the AirdogII just returns it back to the tank through the fill up tube.
