Keeps losing prime

My truck keeps losing prime. I've changed orings in filterhead put on nicktane adapter also pressurized the tank can't find the leak. It happens randomly some times it'll go weeks no prob some times every time I shut the truck off even if only 30 sec. I changed 3 stock type filters before adding ntane now using Cat filter. This problem was there before and after orings & nictane. I think maybe test port but no bubbles with tank pressurized. First time I opened cap on the test port there was fuel in there but after cleaning out none has returned. Does adding pressure to the tank help the valve seal keeping it from leaking. I've spent more than I like trying to fix. Where should look next. No fuel smell or leaks when pressurized under truck or under hood.

How much pressure did you use, and how did you pressurize the tank (shop vac, air on a tapped fuel cap, what)?

Old fuel cap and compresed air; I filled it untill i could hear the tank expand. probally more than the low pressure I read on here. It held pressure while i look under over and around all fuel lines from tank to test valve the rest is hard to see under the intake. I also wiggled all the quick releases no leaks while under pressure.

If you take the fuel heater wire off the filter head (single wire at the back by the firewall), and look down into the terminal, is it dry or wet with fuel?

Does every one take the check ball out when using the Nicktane. It seems like the less fuel in the tank the more often it happens, but it has lost prime after a fill up to top of the neck. Also when the temp out side drops at night alot almost allways the next morning prime lost. Do I need new fuel lines; they don't look bad from the outside. 160,000miles on the truck 2005 warm climate TX.

On the filter head every thing is dry no slope or movement when wiggled. Just replace all the orings kit from vender.

The leak could be IN the fuel tank in the pickup tube. If you have checked everything between the fuel filter housing and the tank and there is no wet area, then it might be IN the tank.

Here I am telling people to fill out their signature so that their truck info is available and I haven't done it yet! Well DUH!

I have had the truck just over 2 years now. 2006 GMC 2500HD CCLB 4WD LBZ 150000 miles about, I have replaced a/c condenser, one rubber fuel line, rebuilt the filter head, and am getting ready to replace the other lines on top of the engine. The fuel line by the transmission is the one replaced, during the winter. Replaced belt, idler pulleys and tensioner. Whoever designed the front of this thing needs to change the belt on every one of the bloody things! U-joints

Also have to replace speakers in the doors and repair or replace seat covering on the drivers side. All in all a good truck. Also have to replace the dip tube in the tank so I can use the full capacity of the tank.

It could also be a faulty gas cap.

Think about it... If the gas cap only lets air in, but not out, then when you shut off the truck you can not lose prime to the filter head (even without the check ball).

If the gas cap leaks air, then the fuel can push the air out of the tank, and viola, you lose prime.

To test the theory (since I have a lift pump and the stock check ball), shut off the truck, remove the gas cap, and see if it'll start.

I was thinking maybe it was in the tank but didn't think about the cap. If it were stuck open fuel could bleed out of line; stuck shut the tank may build sucktion pulling the fuel out, it still seems like it would need a air source upstream to replace the fuel draining. Anybody find leak in the tank pickup. When you guys add pressure to the tank are you getting lots of fuel from the leak. My check ball is out should I put it back in. It lost prime before I added the ntane and remove it. Are there any prime only elec. pumps. I'll replace the cap and see cheap and easy first. Thanks
