What causes injector knock?

I've got one injector that's knocking on the driver's side. I'm pretty positive it's an injector anyhow, as it only does it under "load".

Load meaning if I'm cruising down the highway at a slight decline, the knock goes away. As soon as the highway levels out, and the load increases, the knock comes back.

Now, I shouldn't really call it a knock, per say, because it's more of just a loud tick, but it's annoying the hell out of me.

Is there anything I can do to quiet it down without trying to figure out which injector is knocking and replace it?

I dumped about 3/4 quart of 2-cycle oil into 2/3rds of a tank of fuel, and everything seemed to quiet down considerably, except the tick... /grrr

From what I've read on here, tranny fluid would be a really bad idea. The problem is it cleans to good.

At +20k PSI injector pressure, you wouldn't think dirt could stick.

Now, that's certainly a possibility I hadn't considered... I'll have to wait till it all cools off and toss my hand down there with it running... See if I can feel any breezes.

Thought about that a bit more. The speed of the "tick" doesn't sound like an exhaust leak.

It would be a much faster tick beings that it's a log style exhaust manifold. Now, if it was a header, I'd be all over it. I will, however, tomorrow morning feel around for air when it's cold.

It's also very specific about the RPM... Has to be above 1500 RPM to hear it.

If it was a gas motor, I'd swear it was a loose pushrod or bad lifter.

My LLY started that a while back, just before I had to pick it.

Reason for the pick was that it dropped the #2 and #7 after it started sounding like a tractor.

After picking the #2 and #7 it stopped the knock under load.

Time to get the ice pick out. Sure would be nice if that's all it was.
