Turbo Resonator Block Off

OK, so I did it. I used a 2" "Fern co" cap. What did I just accomplish by blocking this off, and how do I reinstall the turbo resonator so it looks untouched?

Why would you want to...? Just removing the resonator does not increase performance or alter anything...? Gives just slightly more turbo whine is all...

Just save the resonator for when you sell the truck...?

Mostly it is done to decrease the chance that unfiltered air would get in the engine. The resonator has been known to crack or split. You are right, not really a performance mod.

You need the internal plug not the external cap.

I wonder if you buy a 2" Hub x 2" pvc fernco. This is one designed to go over the hub portion of a pvc fitting. It might slip over the cap if a cheap and thin enough one is found and then allow connection under there. Would more than likely need cut down in length. Or from a plumbing supply house one can buy a test plug that expands with a wing nut. Not fond of that idea if it where to come loose and drop the bolt down the intake. Also they make a test plug that fits inside pvc or cast pipe that is a rubber ring and a plastic plug screws into that. Still perfer the cap over all. Can't get sucked in on those high air intake accelerations. HAHAHA!!!

I actually had a very weird result from blocking port.
When doing boosted launches the plugged port actually fell on its face for a second when launced off line instead of slamming you back in the seat and ripping down the line like a rocket.SO I removed plug, did a boosted launch and all good, put plug back in and fell on its face again.SO plug got pulled. Then I put on Kodiak mp and it doesnt have the plugged port issue so I killed two birds one stone with that one

Wow...!...? I read a post by a guy on here just the other day that said the resonator was actually a reserve air box and that would make sense with what your saying...?

A very strange thought for sure...? Back when I had my 1/2 ton ext cab with a 5.3 I added a cold air setup that eliminated the monster resonator cavity that those trucks came with and it developed a bog right off idle with over 1/2 throttle...? I kinda delt with it and sold the truck a few weeks later and gave the original intake parts to the new owner and never gave it much thought... But does make ya wonder...?

Capping the resonator doesn't really do anything performance wise that I know of. It does make it sound a little different though. A main reason for capping them is because some people have had the resonator split on them and leak in unfiltered air. You can test yours for leaks by filling it with water.
I've got mine plugged with the resonator on it. I used a red plastic test plug I found at Lowes. The diameter of it let me put the resonator over it.I took off the wingnut and put 2 nuts on it the top one is a locknut. It will never come off. But you might want to be careful tightening it because I would think you could split the MP easily.

This is what they look like.
