Tahoe Diesel Swap

Hello, i am new to this site so i do apologize if i have placed this thread in the wrong category. I own a 2003 Chevy Tahoe 5.3l with 230,000 miles, pretty much stock. I know my engine is running out of life, well, my entire driveline for that matter. I have blown out my rear end 2 times. I was wondering what it would take to do a diesel swap. Since my entire driveline is feeling the pain, i know i would need to swap it all out. I have done lots of research but have found nothing straight forward. I know lots of people are going to say that its not worth the money, or time, etc. If i was to do it, i would probably be looking at a donor car. What is everyones take on this? Is there anyone who has done this on and 2000-2006 GM truck? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I'm by no means and expert but since no one else answered . . .
I don't think you want to do a Tahoe diesel swap. A 2500 Suburban, yes, but not a Tahoe. There are companies and individuals who have built plenty of Duramax powered 2500 Suburbans. They start with the 2500 because of the heavier frame among other things. The body needs to be lifted to clear the Allison trans. I'm not sure if they swap the rear axle or not. If the Sub came with an 8.1 it may not need a new rear axle.
Anyway, on a Tahoe you would be swapping not only the engine, trans, T-case, and axle but probably also doing body mods to get it all to fit and possibly frame mods to make it stay together.
If you decide to do one I'd love to see some pictures.

Thanks for the reply.
Well im going to look into this a bit more and figure out exactly what i would need to do for this swap to determine if its worth it. If i do end up doing the swap, i will definitely take lots of pictures, maybe even a guide on the swap.
Thanks again for your reply.

Here's my 1500 LLY swap thread. You can do it, it's not that bad. I'm sure there are a few differences between the Hoe and the pickup, but probably not many.

D-max into 1/2 ton RCSB

the tahoe frame is wider in the center than a gmt 800 pickup truck frame, tahoe/escalade are a 906 series(i believe). engine mounts and front end components are all the same you will need to modify your stock sending unit to accommadate a 1/2 inline and 3/8 return, custom tranny mount etc,
Between Thunders reg cab short box 4x4 and my escalade ext halfton build its a full guide to build your halfton tahoe. and there is a teaser thread on hints how to put the 8 bolt rear end/8 bolt hubs/front diff in the halfton frame as well. Feel free to ask any questions.

If you have the guts to try it then go for it. You won't be the first to do it and we know it can be done. TDIGuy @ Duraburb in Florida has done a couple Tahoes, I think he even put 4 wheel steering on one. Look up Duraburb on Youtube and you will see some of his handywork. The best part about TDIGuy is that he shares some of his build techniques, not all because this is his livelyhood. Search around here on the Frankenstein area and you will get all the info you need. If you have time read through the Duramax Suburban Brotherhood thread, if you still want to do it after reading that then you should go for it.

Yes. As the other guys said above, it's definitely doable and has been done before. Do some browsing in the Frankenstein forum, there's lots of info in there. Everyone on this site is very helpful too, there are a handful of people who have put d-max into various half ton platforms.
