DEF 30% after only 500 miles?
i just purchased my 13 chevy 3500 and i have 887 miles on it and i got a warnign saying DEF range 700 miles, 30% full..... i picked the truck up with 338 miles on it, it had to be driven from MO to AL it had 3 miles at the dealership it was sitting at in MO.
is this normal range for the DEF? how far should it go on a full tank? i ASSUME the dealer topped everything off? |

I think you have your answer - the dealer probably didn't top it off. There's been more than a few similar stories here recently - I suspect a lot of the service sheep that are doing the PDI's on the newer trucks probably don't have any idea what the heck "DEF Fluid" is, much less think about filling it.

Many have reported their dealer did not do that part of the pdi.
DEF tank rated to hold 5.3 gal. Expect to get about 1200-1500 mpg. Aftermarket sources will be about $4 per gallon.

DEF 30% after only 500 miles?
Go to a big truck stop around your area they usually have it at the pumps. It's 2.95 a gallon here in Alabama. I paid 12.50 a gallon at the Dealership..

Yeah, it's reasonably priced, and I get about 5,000 miles on a full tank.

I'm in north Alabama so ill look up a hit the local truck stop. Sorry for the silly questions. I've always ran big block 3500s. First diesel for me. Pretty green about the new ones. Only experience I had was daddy's old 98 cummins, very loud rattled horribly really obnoxious but 556k miles....

Yeah I asked my salesman when I picked up my truck if the DEF tank was full. He said oh yeah they fill it at the factory and I replied no they don't his response was he assured me it was full if the factory didn't fill it their guys in the lot would catch it and fill it...........Guess what?.................just turned 1200 miles and I have 23% left on def so they didn't fill fill it and my salesman doesn't know what he is talking about just trying to get the money and move to the next sale. Sucks that you buy a 60k dollar truck and the cheap manufacturer can't give you a 14.00 fill of DEF fluid.
