Service Throttle Soon Light

On my way into work this morning my "service throttle soon" light came on. I had noticed one other time a problem with acceleration. This time it was accompanied with the light. Basically, if I am accelerating, there is a large delay or decrease and then resurgance of acceleration. And I'm not accelerating hard at all! Initially it feels like a clogged fuel filter or gelled fuel, but then why does it sometimes accelerate fine. So reading further I thought maybe it could be the lift pump. I always hear it doing its thing before the engine starts, maybe this morning it didn't, I can't remember.

So am I on the right track, are these the likely culprits, or does the throttle light indicate something else is more likely?? Thanks for any comments!

Service throttle soon indicates your APP sensor needs to be replaced. The APP sensor is made up of three potentiometers, so if one fails the other two should take over unless those too are faulty.

Service throttle light is most likely an APP. The service throttle light only comes on when there is a hard code for an APP fault. It may also be indicating a circuit failure as well, the APP is normally a pretty tough piece.

Each of the three sections will generate a specific DTC - pull the code(s) to see extent of fault.

Sometimes, particularly in cold weather, R&R'ing the connector will be the cure.

The APP module is about 400 bucks

This also happened to me last night. Pedal works intermittently and when the light comes on it doesn't work at all. It's on my folks 99 6.5 suburban and I'm hoping to get it fixed before they get back from Hawaii. But I don't have the $$$ to take it to a shop. Where is the APP and connectors?

That's the Accelerator Positon Potentiometer module, there at the top of the accel pedal.

Connector is safety strapped to the top right side - have to pull the saftey tab outta the connector to remove plug.

There's a guy on E-bay selling new aftermarket ones for $249, or you can find somebody to get you wholesale on the pedal from GM which was $323 the last time I checked.

Warning! Sometimes these can throw a code WITHOUT having an APP problem. Check all connections first, and if you know someone around, exchange with a known good one BEFORE sinking the $$$'s into a new APP.
